New Review: After some sleep and thinking about this game, I've finally finished al the endings. The bell has tolled, the bad moon rose, I've served all the gods, slayed all the gods, and ventured into the twilight! Hehe. I loved this experience. I've been at it for hours, and it's an incredible ride. I think your strength is in giving your puzzles depth. In the library statues puzzle, I remember thinking "how do i know what order the statues go in?" and being rewarded for putting them in either forward or backwards is a really good way to remove that uncertainty.

I also loved scraping for secret passages, and always felt excited to see another new one, to uncover a shortcut. And thank you so much for the Black Ebon hint! It sure is easy to get lost in a labyrinth xD I personally felt that the eyes pointing to secret passages made it a bit too obvious. Getting the Helm of vision and being able to see everything felt like a reward for all my exploration! I understand you want your game to be more accessible though, so I'm glad I got to play the OG version XD

I think good puzzles need a delicate balance, you want things to be tricky, but not impossible. And you want the players to work hard and feel accomplished when they solve a puzzle! There are a lot of areas here that are strong in that, and it's really exciting to see such innovative puzzle games from an independent developer! I adore the combat style and upgrades to the way fights work. The Argos fight was REALLY tricky but enjoyable. It feels like I'm playing a rhythm game, and I really like playing rhythm games haha. And seeing Frank's name on the Journals!!! Wow!! That's so interesting. I can hope only that our future ends up better than the masked man's did.

Excellent work. I love seeing how you've improved from 1-Bit Explorer and I look forward to what you're up to in the future!

Old Review:
My eyes are bloodshot I'll come back to this and give you a real review tomorrow. 4.5 stars, fantastic work, very tricky, love the combat love the puzzles. Definitely needs floor clues for the block pushing puzzle, and a better tell for falling through the dark maze floor, as others have said. I've got hearing problems so I didn't realise there was a ticking noise! I think an audio cue like "you hear a timer counting down" or even "the floor beneath your feet seems weak" would work without ruining the surprise. Or even putting the hint in Journal 7, like "I hope there are no more dark mazes!" or such. I'm VERY tired. If you make another game in English I'd be happy to proofread for you if you're interested! The grammar issues are tiny, not a big deal to me, but I love your work and I'd be happy to contribute :)

Fuller review after I get some sleep ;-; I've been working on this for DAYS!

(Also... how much money do I have to give you for you to tell me where all 4 Ebon Ores are... pls... I only have 3 and i'm suffering... )

Fiddleling responds:

Hello my friend! Thanks for the suggestions! I will be releasing a patch soon to fix some stuff and give additional hints for the game.
For the ores, here are some tips:
- Look into the West Garden building
- Under the trapdoors, follow the music to a statue puzzle
- Inside a building in the Forgotten City, make sure to pull all levers
- On the West Garden, make sure to blow on the fans

Best of luck!

i keep coming back to this game and it has new features and updates. i'm being spoiled.

OH!! THEYRE FRIENDS!!

Loads of fun! And a great use of physics. It struck me as odd that some levels only used certain mechanics once (the spike balls, gravity flipping a midair box, the jump flip), but as its your first intro to a game I think you have a great foundation! I think a platformer works best when it feels good, and I felt the jumps were excellent, but things like nudging boxes to the spots I needed them to be was finicky. It was also a bit difficult to time when I could do the jump flips. Level 13 was quite tricky, but fun to figure out, hehe. Great work, and great use of kenney's lil sprite maker! I love those lil guys xD

Night-Kolo responds:

Thank you! I appreciate the comment on some mechanics' lack of appearances (Like the giant gravity boxes appearing in levels 5, 6, 9, 14), though these are mainly done to help pacing and progression. I only designed 15 levels, and had to give each mechanic a quality level, even if used once, while also teaching the player the game's rules.
A lot of tweaks were made to the movement and gravity flips. I wanted the game to favor player input dearly, with a lot of buffer jump and coyote time. I admit the blocks are a bit of a dousy to use, since they aren't pushed linearly, they'll not feel good to use for some players, I have that criticism myself.
Thanks for the review, Sese! - Kolo

I love minesweeper a LOT so this is a fun reversal of classic MS. It's a jam game so I can forgive it being a bit unoptimised; the longer i stay on a level/the longer the roots go, the laggier the game gets. Oops! But its got a fantastic ambience. If you ever expand on it, there are a lot of fun plant mechanics you could play with :D
edit: thanks for the message! its updated and runs a LOT smoother now! xD

amidos2006 responds:

Thanks a lot would love to hear about your ideas if possible

i can tell im going to be trying to figure these ouzzles out for a WHILE. fun, cute, RATHER difficult.... just right :)

Edit: Against all odds... through all of the pain, the suffering, the statues, and the gallery and the goat...... I have finished the game. Intensely painful. Dire, even. This was Dark Souls to me. Every level, every star, I fought. I fought myself, I fought flags with too little moves, I fought spikes. I will never game again, I think. Five stars.

Lots of love and polish went into this! I'll have to properly play + go through it during the day, I didn't expect it to be so long! A handful of spelling/grammar errors, and it seems the game stutters for me every few seconds, but it's still perfectly playable. Lots of character, and I'm enjoying getting to know the others on the train and the world(s) this takes place in. I'll finish this review when i finish the game haha. If you can tell me, am I going to be chased by a monster in this game at some point? or Jumpscared? I'm a big chicken and I'd like to be prepared if something like that will happen. :)

SquidoodleDev responds:

Heya! Thanks for playing my game, I can confirm there aren't any jumpscares! It's more of a psychological horror compared to a jumpscare one. Hope this helps.

hand hurts. humanity destroyed. ticker funny. song fun. :) my lucky numbers are 14, 14, 12, 33, 16

blit-blat responds:

Wow, 14 twice? That must be doubly lucky! Thanks for playing! :)
